The Challenge
Saint-Gobain was ready to launch their advanced Bond Coat 4 Waterproofing System under the GCP brand—a high-end product known for superior adhesion, compatibility with diverse asphalts, and durability in extreme climates. But they faced a dual challenge: explaining the technical benefits of a highly specialized product in a way that resonated with a diverse, global audience and refreshing their marketing materials to align with GCP’s premium reputation.
Complicating matters, the subject matter could easily come across as dry and overly technical. Saint-Gobain needed a partner who could bring the product to life visually and emotionally, connecting its features to real-world impacts while maintaining the sophistication of the brand. That’s where Eight Engines came in.
The Plan
At Eight Engines, we love a challenge—especially when it involves turning the complicated into something simple and impossible to ignore. With Bond Coat 4, we designed a two-pronged strategy to engage and inform audiences on multiple levels.
- Technical Animation:
- Objective: Break down the molecular-level details of Bond Coat 4 to clearly convey its technical advantages.
- Execution: Using a bright, dynamic 2D animation style, we highlighted how the product enhances adhesion, prevents potholes, and enables thinner asphalt layers. This engaging approach transformed complex technical data into visually striking, easy-to-understand content, appealing to a global audience—not just scientists.
- Cinematic Case Study Video:
- Objective: Demonstrate the real-world impact of Bond Coat 4 through live footage and client testimonials.
- Execution: We filmed on location, capturing the product in use and its effects on people and projects. Interviews with stakeholders provided a relatable, human touch, while a cinematic production style emphasized the product’s premium quality. This dual focus on technical excellence and emotional resonance aligned perfectly with GCP’s high-end branding.
Together, these assets bridged the gap between technical precision and human connection, creating a comprehensive and versatile content package driving customers towards the sale.
The Results
- Clear Communication: The animation distilled technical complexity into a format that resonated globally, especially with younger, video-savvy decision-makers.
- Brand Alignment: Both the animation and case study video reinforced GCP’s image as a premium, innovative brand, appealing to international markets and refreshing outdated marketing materials.
- Multi-Platform Impact: The deliverables provided Saint-Gobain with tools adaptable for LinkedIn campaigns, sales presentations, and beyond.
- Memorable Content: By pairing technical depth with human-centered storytelling, the project made a lasting impression on contractors, applicators, and consultants worldwide.
This project exemplifies Eight Engines' mission to make the complicated simple—creating high-quality, impossible-to-ignore content that not only works hard but also reflects the beauty and emotion of the story it tells. Or, as Evangeline Luxton, Marketing Communications Manager puts it:
"I have worked with them on a few different items and have found they have provided great support, alongside great final results. The finished video reflects our business and products well. It can also be utilised on social media and in presentations which support our sales teams"
