EasyJet's New Uniforms
Key Points
- Client: EasyJet
- Partner Agency: Surgery, a branding agency specialising in internal communications
- Job Title: New Staff Uniform Campaign Videos
- Job Type: Internal Communication, Video Production
- Location: Heathrow Airport, London
- Time Frame: One day of filming with rapid post-production turnaround
The Challenge
EasyJet wanted to announce its new staff uniforms in an engaging and high-quality format, aiming to excite employees before the official launch. Drawing inspiration from social media-style content, the client needed a more polished approach to resonate with their staff.
The challenge involved:
- Filming 40 uniform pieces within a single day.
- Turning raw footage into a series of polished, engaging videos, each highlighting a specific uniform item, on a tight schedule.
- Transforming a conference room at Heathrow Airport into a professional studio to achieve the desired production quality.
The Plan
Preparation was key. With the Eight Engines team embodying Abraham Lincoln's ethos—“If you give me four hours to chop down a tree, I will spend three sharpening the axe”—our pre-production planning focused on efficiency and adaptability.
Steps we took:
- Studio Setup in a Conference Room:
- We blocked out all external lighting using black cloth and flag kits.
- Installed a six-meter backdrop to replicate a studio environment.
- Set up adjustable coloured lighting, programmable via an iPad, to quickly change the scene for variety.
- Tight Logistics and Schedule Management:
- Created a detailed timing plan to ensure each model had only 10 minutes in front of the camera.
- Streamlined the process for swift outfit changes and quick transitions between shoots.
- On-the-Fly Problem Solving:
- Leveraged a modular setup to adapt instantly to client feedback and any day-of challenges.
The Results
Despite a packed schedule and the unconventional location, we delivered a series of polished, high-quality videos within the required timeframe.
Key Highlights:
- Efficiency: Filmed 40 uniforms in one day, demonstrating precision and adaptability under time pressure.
- Innovation: The temporary studio setup at Heathrow Airport exceeded client expectations, offering a professional and versatile environment.
- Client Satisfaction:
Megan Hambly, Project Manager at Surgery, praised the team’s responsiveness, saying: - “The team delivered the project on time, was responsive and quick to react to any amends from the client. The client was very complimentary of the project process and output.”
While the uniforms remain confidential for now, this project exemplifies Eight Engines’ ability to deliver exceptional results, even under challenging conditions.
