BAM UK & Ireland: Climate Adaptability

BAM UK & Ireland: Climate Adaptability

Key Points

Client: BAM UK & Ireland
Job Title: Civil Engineering Climate Impact Video
Job Type: Video Production
Location: Leeds, UK
Timeframe: Half-day shoot

The Challenge

BAM UK & Ireland sought a compelling video to spotlight their civil engineering projects addressing climate change. The goal was to emphasise the importance of resilience in the face of climate challenges, such as flooding, and to highlight BAM's solutions like the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme. With only half a day to shoot, the challenge was to craft an engaging narrative while efficiently capturing high-quality footage and interviews that conveyed both urgency and innovation.

The Plan

Eight Engines focused on creating a video that balanced strong storytelling with impactful visuals. Central to the production was an engaging piece-to-camera by BAM’s National Framework Manager, Ruth Young, whose insights provided a human connection to the narrative. This was complemented by dynamic b-roll from the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme site as well as other projects across the UK, showcasing the scale and importance of BAM’s engineering solutions.

To maximise the limited shoot time, we meticulously planned every shot, prioritising scenes that visually and emotionally underscored BAM’s leadership in climate resilience. Our approach was to deliver a video that not only informed but also inspired, ensuring that BAM’s achievements resonated with their audience.

The Results

The final product was a 3-minute hero video that effectively communicated BAM’s commitment to tackling climate change. Seamlessly blending Ruth Young’s insights with striking footage of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme, the video served as both an inspiring narrative and a testament to BAM’s innovative solutions.

Rob Barstow, BAM’s External Communications Manager, remarked:
"Eight Engines’ greatest strength, in my opinion, is the commitment to the story narrative. They knew how to sell a story rather than just make a film that looked good. They are also easy to work with; hard-working and detailed but also good fun, which is important."
