The Challenge

NBC Universal required a creative and versatile partner to deliver engaging behind-the-scenes content for Channel 4’s Everyone Else Burns across both Series 1 and Series 2. The brief was to capture the show’s distinct satirical edge - its unique blend of religious themes and irreverent humour—while appealing to both dedicated fans and broader audiences across multiple platforms.

For Series 1, the challenge included producing a featurette titled The Last Supper, a comic roundtable where the cast humorously summed up their experiences. For both series, the goal was to create a ten-plus minute documentary alongside dynamic social media content, ensuring every piece was cinematic yet instantly shareable, all within a tight schedule and budget.

The Plan

Eight Engines stepped in with bold, creative ideas and a clear roadmap for the project. Our approach was twofold:

  • For Both Series: We produced a ten-minute-plus documentary that provided an in-depth look at the making of the show. This documentary captured candid interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and the creative process that went into bringing the show’s quirky aesthetic to life.
  • For Series 1: We developed The Last Supper featurette - a playful, comedic roundtable discussion where the cast reflected on their experiences from the first season in a manner that was both entertaining and on-brand.
  • Social Media Content: Complementing the documentaries, we crafted a suite of social media deliverables. These included short-form videos such as:
    • A cast-led set tour showcasing the show’s distinctive production design.
    • A fun, light-hearted quiz featuring cast insights.
    • A confessional-themed segment drawing on the show’s religious motifs, designed to drive audience engagement.

Our experienced crew executed a focused three-day shoot for each series, efficiently capturing the required interviews, B-roll, and staged moments. In post-production, we meticulously edited the footage to create 30 polished deliverables per series, optimised for various platforms - with specific attention to portrait formats for social media and versions complete with subtitles for broader accessibility.

The Results

The comprehensive content package exceeded NBC Universal’s expectations, offering a robust EPK and versatile assets that amplified the reach of Everyone Else Burns across both series:

  • The Documentary: The ten-plus minute documentary delivered an in-depth, cinematic look into the production process, driving high engagement and shares online.
